Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct describes how all stakeholders of the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce treat each other and work together for the common good of the community. Conducting the organizations’ business in an atmosphere of respect and civility is the underlying theme in this Code. Stakeholders are responsible for holding themselves accountable for displaying actions and behaviors that consistently model the ideals expressed in the Code.
Implicit in the Code of Conduct is recognition of the worth of all persons and appreciation for their individual talents, perspectives, and contributions. The Code will ensure an atmosphere where all members, staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, board members, committee members, and any other stakeholders are free to express their ideas and work to their full potential.
As a stakeholder in the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce, I agree to these principals of conduct:
- We assure fair and equal treatment of all people, without exception.
- We conduct ourselves both personally and professionally, that is above reproach- with the understanding that your presence in public always represents the organization in some way.
- We refrain from any abusive conduct, personal charges, or verbal attacks on the character or motives of any stakeholder.
- We take care to avoid personal comments that could offend others.
- We show no tolerance for intimidating behaviors
- We work as a team to solve problems and render decisions that are based on the merits and substances of the matter.
- We respect the differences in opinions and views of other people.
- We will refrain from negotiating or making commitments on behalf of the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce without the involvement, knowledge, and approval of the CEO.
- We will work with all stakeholders in a manner that consistently demonstrates mutual respect.
- We will report inappropriate behavior and comments that are discriminatory, harassing, abusive, offensive, or unwelcome to the CEO and Chair, or the Executive Committee if behavior is from the CEO.
- We will conduct ourselves in an appropriate manner if we consume alcohol at an event by monitoring our tolerance level to be appropriate to completing event tasks as needed. This includes volunteers while on duty.
- We will not disclose confidential and nonpublic information without proper authorization from the Executive Board.
- We will not tolerate any retaliation from concerns raised in good faith.
- We maintain good financial standing with the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce and conduct our businesses in a financially responsible, lawful, and ethical manner. Stakeholders are expected to operate businesses in good standing and avoid practices that may undermine trust, public confidence, or the Chamber’s reputation within the community.
