Parks & Open Space

We take pride in our parks and open space areas.

The City owns and maintains more than 475 acres of parks and open space that help preserve the Island’s natural beauty and woodsy character.

Covering 77 acres of land, Luther Burbank Park is a jewel of a park. It has 4,000 feet of shoreline, a boat dock and fishing pier, three miles of maintained trails, a children’s play area, tennis courts, pea patches and an off-leash dog run. In the summer months, there is a sailing and kayaking program for children.

There are two City parks with beaches: Clarke Beach and Groveland Beach Park. Mercerdale Park is located in the heart of Town Center. In addition to trails and plenty of open space, Mercerdale has open picnic areas, a skateboard park, a native garden, children's play area and more. Other parks on the Island include the 120-acre wooded Pioneer Park, the 20-acre Park on the Lid over I-90 and numerous street end parks and landings. There are also many ball fields, picnic areas and bike trails, as well as more than 50 miles of marked hiking trails.
