for November 2010
by Terry Moreman
This November, Mercer Island businesses will support local youth by asking their non-profits serving youth: Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club, Mercer Island Youth and Family Services, Youth Theatre Northwest, Mercer Island Schools Foundation.
Since the economic downturn in the past two years funding for critical services and programs has been cut or decreased. These four local Mercer Island organizations touch the lives of every Island youth and provide the primary social and school-based counseling services, educational enhancements, recreational and athletic opportunities, drama and expressionistic activities. By shopping locally Island residents can support both the local businesses and these organizations.
None of these four Mercer Island entities receives any undesignated funding from United Way or any other large off-island community funders. The funds necessary to support local programs and activities for our Island youth must come from Island residents. The money from this campaign will be divided equally amongst these four organizations and will support their current on-going activities and services. Please join other businesses in displaying the fundraising campaign posters and asking every Island patron to support their local youth with their local dollars.
We are working on a Mercer Island Green Business Campaign, other shop local promotions and a new website. The Mercer Island Chamber is an active and vibrant organization. Thank you for your continued support.
Also, remember that the Chamber needs Friends…Check out our Facebook Page.
